Merry Christmas Buckaroos

Have you noticed? It's Christmas. We hope that all of your Christmas wishes will come true and that the new year will be prosperous and joyful. We are thankful to all of you that have supported us this year. 2009 should be a good'ern and we are really looking forward to playing in some new venues and renewing some old friendships and meeting some new friends.

First Day, First Gig

Start the new year right and get that New Years Eve fog out of your brain. Join us at the Domain Street Wine Bar for the first gig of the new year. We'll be there January 1st from 7:00 to 9:00.
Christmas Stockings
for the Troops

The final tally was 630. No kidding. Because of your support we sent 630 Christmas stockings to 17 units of our deployed troops in Iraq and Afghanistan. And the unit that we have been supporting throughout their deployment, the 206th Engineers, have received their Christmas tree and special gifts.

These men and women are away from home and in harms way. They do this so that we can be safe with our families and observe this Christmas season freely.

Thank You, From Our Troops

Thank you so much for the Box of Christmas Stockings!!!
We were all having a rough morning, the computers were down and we all had a lot of work to get done.  We had just finished the morning meeting and everyone was still in the office before they scattered to the wind to accomplish the days missions.
The commander was under a lot of pressure to get everyone out on missions safely, when I brought in the Box of Christmas stockings.  I gave the commander one of the stockings hoping it would cheer him up.  He smiled, reached into the stocking and pulled out the first item. The Platoon burst into laughter, just by chance he pulled out a bag of feminine products which seemed to fit his mood at the time.  We all had a good laugh and the soldiers dug into their gifts, jerky sticks were traded for sunglasses and everyone fought for the phone cards.
Thank you so much for making our Christmas season joyful.

PS...I will send a picture of the platoon, with their stocking here in the next few days.

We received some Stockings from AdoptaPlatoon a few days ago with a bunch of goodies and in it were cards from some kids back home. I do not know who all of them were, but we sat around our planning table and read them all. Thanks to everyone for all the support from back home. Thank you all so much for everything you do for us. We ALL appreciate it here.

I would like to say thanks for everything you guys are doing for the soldiers overseas. I don't know how far this email goes but I would really like it if you guys could contact the little girl who made this drawing for me and let her know that I received and really like it. It really set a place inside me like I was home. I hope that you guys get up the good work while we are deployed over here.

I really appreciate the package. It really brings such joy to receive a package and to know that there are those that support each and every one of us soldiers and what we do. I really want to say thank AdoptaPlatoon especially for the lip balm-my lips have been extremely chapped since I have been here. It will definitely be used. Thank you also for the little goodies. Here we share all goodies, so it helps everyone out. Thank you again. I'm proud to call you a friend.

Merry Christmas, My Friend
by James M. Schmidt

Twas the night before Christmas, he lived all alone,
In a one bedroom house made of plaster & stone.

I had come down the chimney, with presents to give
and to see just who in this home did live

As I looked all about, a strange sight I did see,
no tinsel, no presents, not even a tree.
No stocking by the fire, just boots filled with sand.
On the wall hung pictures of a far distant land.

With medals and badges, awards of all kind,
a sobering thought soon came to my mind.
For this house was different, unlike any I'd seen.
This was the home of a U.S. Marine.

I'd heard stories about them, I had to see more,
so I walked down the hall and pushed open the door.
And there he lay sleeping, silent, alone,
Curled up on the floor in his one-bedroom home.

He seemed so gentle, his face so serene,
Not how I pictured a U.S. Marine.
Was this the hero, of whom I'd just read?
Curled up in his poncho, a floor for his bed?

His head was clean-shaven, his weathered face tan.
I soon understood, this was more than a man.
For I realized the families that I saw that night,
owed their lives to these men, who were willing to fight.

Soon around the Nation, the children would play,
And grown-ups would celebrate on a bright Christmas day.
They all enjoyed freedom, each month and all year,
because of Marines like this one lying here.

I couldn't help wonder how many lay alone,
on a cold Christmas Eve, in a land far from home.
Just the very thought brought a tear to my eye.
I dropped to my knees and I started to cry.

He must have awoken, for I heard a rough voice,
"Santa, don't cry, this life is my choice
I fight for freedom, I don't ask for more.
My life is my God, my country, my Corps."

With that he rolled over, drifted off into sleep,
I couldn't control it, I continued to weep.

I watched him for hours, so silent and still.
I noticed he shivered from the cold night's chill.
So I took off my jacket, the one made of red,
and covered this Marine from his toes to his head.
Then I put on his T-shirt of scarlet and gold,
with an eagle, globe and anchor emblazoned so bold.
And although it barely fit me, I began to swell with pride,
and for one shining moment, I was Marine Corps deep inside.

I didn't want to leave him so quiet in the night,
this guardian of honor so willing to fight.
But half asleep he rolled over, and in a
Merry Christmas my friend, Semper Fi and goodnight. voice clean and pure,
said "Carry on, Santa, it's Christmas Day, all secure."
One look at my watch and I knew he was right,
