A Tribute to Veterans

As Americans, we are blessed to share the gift of a free country, where we are secure in our individual rights and liberties. But as we know all too well, that gift of freedom did not come free. It was purchased and defended by generations of American patriots who have served and sacrificed -- patriots who we call veterans.

Throughout this nation's history, our veterans have defended our freedom and our American way of life. Our very system of law and government was preserved by their sacrifices. And still today, our active servicemen and women continue to answer the call, on bases and fields of service all around the globe. Americans of good faith may disagree on the politics of various foreign conflicts, but we can ALL agree on the need to support our brave men and women who serve - and have served - this great country. As a small token of our gratitude, we want to bring you this special tribute to our veterans and our troops. Now more than ever, these American heroes deserve our prayers, our support, and our remembrance. Thank you for taking the time to consider these thoughts.
Happy Birthday to
the Marine Corp

From the Halls of Montezuma,
To the Shores of Tripoli;
We fight our country's battles
In the air, on land, and sea;
First to fight for right and freedom
And to keep our honor clean;
We are proud to claim the title
Of UNITED STATES MARINES.

During the American Revolution, many important political discussions took place in the inns and taverns of Philadelphia, including the founding of the Marine Corps.
A committee of the Continental Congress met at Tun Tavern to draft a resolution calling for two battalions of Marines able to fight for independence at sea and on shore.
The resolution was approved on November 10, 1775, officially forming the Continental Marines.
As the first order of business, Samuel Nicholas became Commandant of the newly formed Marines. Tun Tavern's owner and popular patriot, Robert Mullan, became his first captain and recruiter. They began gathering support and were ready for action by early 1776.
Each year, the Marine Corps marks November 10th with a celebration of the brave spirit which compelled these men and thousands since to defend our country as United States Marines.

4th Annual AdoptaPlatoon
Chili Cook-Off

Each year we send our assigned unit a Christmas Tree with lights and ornaments. This year will be no different. But, we are going to ask you to help us to do more. Our Assigned unit this year is deployed at a Forward Operating Base in Afghanistan. You have always come through for our guys. This year we are going to ask you to bring a gift for a soldier. I doesn't have to be much, a hand held game, a DVD, a CD box set, a new Corvette. You know, Something simple that a young soldier a long way from home, in a very dangerous place might enjoy.

We Need Chili!!!
You haven't got much time to perfect that recipe. Get to work and get it right. Contact us at theroadhouseband@gmail.com and let us know how much chili you will be making. We have categories for traditional and non-traditional chili. So, don't be afraid whip up that eccentric little concoction that you've been thinking about. Let the folks decide whether or not it was such a good idea.

Christmas Stockings for Our Troops

Christmas is going to be special this year thanks to the 5th grade classes of Green Pines Elementary School. They are going to be stuffing stocking for all of our of our guys.

The World According to Jake

Never disparage America. We have been blessed from the beginning. Thank a Veteran. It is the Veteran that has preserved that blessing.

"They began now to gather in the small harvest they had, and to fit up their houses and dwellings against winter, being all well recovered in health and strength and had all things in good plenty.  For as some were thus employed in affairs abroad, others were exercising in fishing, about cod and bass and other fish, of which they took good store, of which every family had their portion.  All the summer there was no want; and now began to come in store of fowl, as winter approached, of which this place did abound when they came first (but afterward decreased by degrees).  And besides waterfowl there was great store of wild turkeys, of which they took many, besides venison, etc.  Besides they had about a peck of meal a week to a person, or now since harvest, Indian corn to that proportion.  Which made many afterwards write so largely of their plenty here to their friends in England, which were not feigned but true reports."

William Bradford, 1621
